The Crest

A key laid across the door it opens. That is the whole idea. The doorway is drawn properly: fanlight above, panelled leaves, columns either side, a step at the foot. The key crosses it on the diagonal, deliberately oversized, the way a thing matters more than its size. Laurel branches climb both flanks and meet a trefoil crown at the top, open enough to see the wall through it. At the base a ribbon curls out at both ends to carry your city and the year.

Most name plates give you a surname. This one gives you the year you arrived and the words the house was built on.

Craftsmanship

Real metal, formed over the sculpted shape rather than cast, so the fanlight bars stay separate and the key keeps the cut of its teeth. The metal is bonded to the surface, not painted or plated, so it will not chip, flake or peel. The raised work is buffed back to bright gold by hand and the ground behind it left dark. That contrast is what lets the name read from the gate.

Built for outdoors

UV-protected and weather-treated after finishing, so it holds its colour in direct sun and through the monsoon. No fading, no rust bleed, no repainting every year. Fix it to the gate and forget about it.

Personalisation

Four lines are yours: the house name across the centre, a line of your own beneath it, and the city and year on the banner. Written in any language: English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi, Urdu, Bengali. Long names are welcome; the lettering is set to fit your name rather than your name cut to fit the plate. Mounting

Three ways, chosen at checkout.

• Peel-off tape: three sealed strips across the back, no drilling at all. Best on a tiled or granite surface, or anywhere you would rather not make holes.
• Keyhole slots: two screws in the wall and the plate lifts on and off. Simplest permanent fix, easiest to level.
• Floating stud mount: four threaded studs on reinforced bosses, set into the wall so the plate stands a few millimetres clear. Throws a shadow line under the crest and no fixing ever shows.

Where it works

The main door of a flat, the gate pillar or boundary wall of a bungalow, an open porch, a farmhouse entrance, the lobby wall of a society. Traditionally the name plate sits at the main entrance where it catches the light, and this one is made to stay out there.

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. No metal polish or scouring, the dark ground is meant to stay dark. Outdoors, an occasional wipe is all it needs.
