The Stone

Lapis lazuli runs from deep midnight blue through to a vivid cobalt, threaded with white calcite and flecked with pyrite that reads as tiny gold sparks. Individual pieces can lean grey blue or almost purple. The stone has been prized since antiquity, ground into pigment for painters and carved for Egyptian jewellery, and no two surfaces assembled from it come out alike.

Craftsmanship

Each piece of lapis is cut and set by hand into a flat surface held inside a scalloped gold perimeter frame. A pair of straight cylindrical bar handles is mounted at either end, plain and modern, so the stone keeps all the attention. Made by hand in India.
