The Design

Branching coral structure, translated into metal with all its knobbles and forks intact. The surface is deliberately uneven, so light breaks up across it instead of sliding off, and the round form keeps the whole thing anchored on a coffee table or a dining centre.

Craftsmanship

This tray is electroformed. The coral is sculpted first, then metal is grown onto that core layer by layer until the original sculpted form stands in solid metal, knobbles and forks and all. It is antiqued by hand in India afterwards, so the raised branches stay bright while the crevices between them darken, which is what breaks the light up across the surface. Every tray comes out a little different from the last.
