The Piece

A peacock in the round, its body and neck standing clear of a deep cylinder and its tail opening across the whole back in layered feathers. An oval cartouche sits at the front carrying your word, framed in scrollwork, with a fine gold band running round the rim and another round the flared foot. The ground behind the gold is blackened and lightly textured, so every feather has an edge to catch the light.

A pen holder is the one object on a desk that gets touched every day. It may as well be worth looking at.

Craftsmanship

Real metal, formed over the sculpted shape rather than cast, so every feather keeps its edge and the fine barbs stay open instead of filling in. The metal is bonded to the surface, not painted, so it will not chip, flake or peel. Raised gold, buffed back by hand, against a blackened ground.

Built to last

UV-protected and weather-treated after finishing. It holds its colour in direct sun and through the monsoon, so a desk by a window is no risk to it. No fading, no rust bleed, no repainting.

Personalisation

The oval cartouche at the front is yours. It is shown reading PROSPER, and many people keep a word rather than a name: a family name, a year, or a single word worth having in front of you every morning. Written in any language, English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi, Urdu, Bengali. The lettering is set to fit what you send rather than your word cut to fit the oval. On the desk

The foot is flared and weighted, so it stays put when you pull a pen from the far side. Nothing to fix, nothing to assemble. Lift it, wipe under it, put it back.

Where it works

On a desk in a home study, on a consulting room table, on the counter of a shop you built yourself, on the hall console for keys and a pen. The peacock faces left, so it sits best a little to the right of where you work.
