The Red Agate

This is the warmest stone in the collection. Red agate here runs burnt orange and carnelian through to rust and honey amber, with the occasional darker red-brown piece breaking up the band. It is associated with strength and vitality, and no two chips carry the same markings, so each chalice ends up with a pattern of its own.

Craftsmanship

Each piece is made by hand. Genuine red agate chips are set one at a time around the lower half of a ribbed glass cup, and a second bed of chips is packed across the foot. Real metal is then built up over both through an electroforming process, forming a thick, solid layer that locks every chip in place and rises above the stone in tall, flame-like points that reach up over the clear glass. Between the two bands sits a small faceted glass knop, left clear. Unlike paint or thin plating, this is solid deposited metal: it will not rub off, chip, or peel. The outermost layer is applied in your finish of choice: gold, silver, or rose gold.
