The Stone

Lapis lazuli has been prized since antiquity — ground into pigment for Renaissance painters, carved into jewels for Egyptian pharaohs. Here it is in a format you can put cheese on. The platter is a mosaic of irregular lapis chunks, ranging from deep midnight blue to vivid cobalt, with white calcite veins and occasional gold pyrite flecks running through each piece. The individual chunks are different in tone and character, but together they create a surface that is unmistakably, richly blue.

Craftsmanship

Each lapis chunk is individually hand-cut and assembled together into a flat serving surface. The pieces are fitted closely, and the whole is set within an electroformed metal border. The construction allows the natural variation of individual stones to show as part of the overall design.
