The Stone

Black obsidian cut as a rectangle with stepped facets down each side, the same cut a jeweller would call an emerald cut. Obsidian is volcanic glass, so the polished faces come up to a hard gloss with no banding or grain running through them.

Craftsmanship

Each stone is held in a heavy electroformed bezel that wraps the sides and corners. Electroforming grows real metal directly onto the stone in a plating bath rather than laying foil or paint over it, so the metal is bonded to the piece and follows every irregularity of the cut. The thread and fixings are solid brass. Available in gold, silver and rose gold.

Where it works

Black against ivory or white is the most reliable hardware pairing there is, and it suits a kitchen that is already finished or a study where the joinery is dark. The emerald cut gives a stepped, faceted face rather than a rounded one.

Wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which will dull the polish.
