The Peacock

India's national bird, and a long-standing symbol of grace, beauty and good fortune. The bird stands in full profile while its tail lifts and curls overhead into a crescent of layered feathers. Three tea lights sit along the sweep of that tail, so the light climbs the plumage instead of sitting flat on the table.

Craftsmanship

Real metal, formed over the sculpted shape rather than cast, so every feather line stays sharp. The metal is bonded to the surface, not painted or plated, so it will not chip or rub off. All the look and feel of solid metal, without the bulk.

Dimensions and weights are approximate. Each piece is made and finished by hand, so small variations are normal.

Choosing a size

Large: a console, a mantel, a dining centrepiece. Three flames across that span will carry a long table. It stands over 15 cm front to back, so give it a surface with real depth rather than a narrow ledge.

Small: a mandir or pooja shelf, a bookshelf, a bedside table. The three lights sit closer together here, so it reads as one glow rather than three.

Both sizes take the same 38 mm tea lights, so the flames are identical. On the large they are three points along a sculpture; on the small they sit nearer the centre of the piece, closer to the way a diya reads. On Diwali night either one goes out with the diyas.

Gifting

A Diwali and Dhanteras gift that earns its place the rest of the year too. Works equally for griha pravesh, housewarming, wedding and anniversary.

Care

Wipe clean with a soft dry cloth. Do not immerse in water. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep the flame clear of the feather work above it.
